This is also a great time to assess what you really wear and what you don’t. Be honest. If you haven’t worn something in months, donate it.

2. Switch to lighter bedding
Similar to your clothing, summer is also the time to switch to lighter bedding. Ditch the flannel sheets and thick duvets and opt for breezier cotton. You can even totally update the look of your bedroom by changing decorative cushions and duvet covers.

3. Declutter
Go through each room in your home and get rid of anything you don’t use or like anymore. Donate things in good condition and recycle the rest.

4. Clear out expired items from the fridge and the pantry
Take a look in your fridge and pantry and get rid of all those expired items. Once you have all of the expired offenders out of the way, re-organise both your fridge and your pantry, grouping like items together.

5. Check smoke alarms
You’re supposed to change the batteries in your smoke alarms at least once a year, so why not do it when you are getting your home ready for summer. Replace the batteries. This could save your life one day, make sure you do it.

6. Waterblast your driveway, deck and house
Winter can leave a lot of your home covered dirt, debris, mould and moss. These always seem to adhere to your deck, driveway, outside of your gutters and even your house. Hire a water blaster or use one of the spray on solutions and on a sunny day, go to town. The results will be amazing!

7. Clean the windows and open them up
This is the perfect time to clean all of your windows inside and out, with a little bit of effort they’ll be gleaming in no time. While you’re at it, throw open your windows and air out your house.

8. Plant flowers, veggies and herbs
Plant some seeds or store-bought flowers in pots inside and out or in flowerbeds for an instant makeover. If you love fresh veggies, fruits and herbs, consider sowing some in planter boxes or in your garden.

9. Clean off patio furniture
Patio furniture is another one of those things that gets hit hard over the winter. Waterblast or wipe it all down. Once you have your table and chairs sparkling clean again, bring out your chair cushions and outdoor throw pillows to really add colour and comfort.

10. Switch around your home decor items for a fresh look
Style doesn’t need to be expensive. Try moving different pieces to another room or changing the configuration of your furniture. You’ll be surprised with how new everything looks once you mix it up a bit. Finish off with some fresh flowers in a vase and your home is summer ready!
